Turquoise Takes a Turn

By Cynthia Sliwa — May 16, 2013

With hues flattering to almost everyone, the gemstone turquoise is appearing in wonderful variety this season, the centerpiece of designs inspired by a wide range of influences.

The March 2013 issue of Elle magazine styles ’60s-tinged Gallic classics with turquoise accents inspired by actress Catherine Deneuve. Here the model wears turquoise and diamond earrings from David Webb and a turquoise and diamond ring from Emily & Ashley. Her yellow gold necklace is also from David Webb. She also wears a gold and diamond bracelet (obscured) from Wilfredo Rosado. Her jacket and swimsuit are from Burberry Prorsum, her silk scarf is from Hermes, and her bag is from Louis Vuitton.

In this second look from the March 2013 Elle fashion spread, the model wears a pair of turquoise rings from Kara Ross. Her diamond, sapphire, spinel, and garnet earrings are from Van Cleef & Arpels. In her hair she wears Plexiglas earrings from Missoni. She models a mink coat from Prada, a tweed dress, and bag from Chanel, and sunglasses from Mykita & Beth Ditto.

In a grunge-inspired fashion spread in the April 2013 issue of Elle, the model is styled wearing a turquoise and diamond necklace from Bavna with a Bottega Veneta silk dress, Chanel boots, and a blanket from Hermes.

The March 2013 issue of Elle spotlights a pair of rings from Brazilian fine jewelry designer Emar Batalha. Pictured are a turquoise ring with sapphires, diamonds, and rubies, and an emerald and diamond ring, both from the designer.

The April 2013 issue of Allure features an Iradj Moini cuff of quartz and turquoise.

As reported in the May 2013 issue of Elle magazine, “Tiffany & Co. revisits its 1920s heyday with a dazzling art deco-inspired collection in its signature hue.” The diamond-encrusted turquoise pendants suspended from diamond-accented chains and coordinating earrings might be “straight out of a Jazz Age jewelry box,” suggests Elle.

A very different design inspiration incorporating turquoise is captured in the spread “Gypsy Fever” in the May 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Incorporating the stone are a necklace form Alexis Bittar, a narrow cuff bracelet from Isabel Marant, and earrings from Robert Lee Morris. Stone earrings from Lizzie Fortunato and a two-strand necklace from Natalie Frigo are also featured.

In the April 2013 issue of Lucky, actress Zoe Kravitz models selections from the Zoe Kravitz for Swarovski Crystallized line of turquoise, crystal, and silver-plated brass jewelry.
