The Striking Combination of Wristwatch and Bracelet

By Cynthia Sliwa — August 19, 2014

A luxury timepiece is beautiful all on its own, but this season, the impetus is to add a side bracelet (or two or three) to up the style ante.

The April 2014 issue of Harper’s Bazaar devotes a page to the “Perfect Pairs” of wristwatches and bracelets from high-end designer lines The magazine notes:  “Good things may come in twos, but when the pairing in question is a luxury timepiece and an equally chic bracelet, it’s an especially winning match. It’s a combination that allows you to play with contrasts too. Case in point: Bulgari’s rose-gold-and-diamond bangle is an ideal foil for the brand’s borrowed-from-the-boys chronograph.”  Pictured are pairings from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Bulgari, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., and Ralph Lauren Fine Jewelry.

The August 2014 issue of Elle profiles American tennis star Sloane Stephens wearing a combination of a sporty watch and a bracelet of straight lines and sharp angles, neither of which pieces is identified. In a contest between those two pieces, I think it likely that the bracelet will win, rather quickly making work of the more fragile watch. It’s not a good game if the parties are not well matched. The striking combination of wristwatch and bracelet can prove to be a one-sided match.
